Trusted by Comex, a French diving research company, for its water-resistant performance, the Rolex Sea-Dweller has been a trusted timepiece that has seen many important diving milestones over the decades, including the 534-meter dive record set by the Hydra VIII mission in 1988 and the 701-meter record in 1992 when it was tested in a pressure chamber to nearly reach the limits of human ability.
Increasing performance: In 1978, the water resistance of the new generation of the Sea-Dweller was significantly improved to 1,220 meters, making it the first production diver’s watch to exceed 1,220 meters. Unveiled in 2014, the Ref.116600 is the first Sea-Dweller since the turn of the millennium, featuring the COSC-certified 3135 automatic movement.
Launched in 2017 to celebrate the Sea-Dweller‘s 50th anniversary, the new Ref.126600 is powered by the Rolex chronometer-certified calibre 3235, which features a Parachrom hairspring and Paraflex cushioning, as well as a patented Chronergy escapement that increases the power reserve from 48 to 70 hours.
